a little bit ABOUT ME
It is my passion to make things.
Following retirement from my profession as a doctor in the neonatal service of my local NHS, I set course in a creative direction studying Art and Design and then Photography. During my college experience I was introduced to clay. The freedom and immediacy of hand-building with clay suits my professionally ingrained need to be in control. Ironically, I then relinquish control to allow a smoke-firing process to finish my work, imbuing an energy which is unpredictable but rewarding and exciting.
My inspiration is the natural world; the big stuff! It’s the mountains, the sea, the rocks, the rivers and glaciers. It’s the energy in the wind and the water. It’s the colour and flow of the seasons. Building with clay lets me capture just a little of that and bring it close.
